1st Division Won 55 - 0 vs UBCOB Ravens

It was twenty minutes in before the first score in this match.  Five quick sets of hands saw the ball go from Jack to Gerhardt to walk in on an overlap.  From the kick off, the ball was stolen by Rogie who got it to an alert Armstrong who saw the space downfield and booted a clever end-over-ender.  With the high bounce, a “pacey” and hard working prop, Thornber, snatched it, fended off a would-be tackler and gamboled thirty meters to the sticks.  There followed a ‘messy” period but credit to The Ones for attempting structure and playing to their strengths.  Good interpassing saw Horan burst away and offload for an easy finish for Pollock.  Late in the half the Raven managed some phases only to find Jack springing Alexander who was foiled into touch.  It was the captain who put the exclamation mark on the stanza with a lovely flat pass to Powell who was under the sticks. 24 – 0. Halftime.

A mere eight minutes after the interval, Armstrong scored from forward pressure and he added his brace moments after when he pinched a ball from his opposite number.  Kyle used his experience in this game to make those around him better and enabled Jack to play with confidence in the pivot role.  At the twenty minute mark it was Thornber again who sprung Alexander with a good pass.  45 – 0 and the Raven was mortally wounded.  Shortly after, recycled ball and good passing put Jenkins over and when Armstrong fed Straith blind, he put in a good step to free Alexander again.  There was work to be done but it was a good winger’s effort.

For this observer, Trevor Heimann was MoM, backed by some good work from his forward mates.  Thornber had another quality outing, Hodgey and Powell always get through a lot and Ilnicki showed often.  Nice to have Riley back.  Riles, the club’s thoughts are with you at this time.  In the backs, Armstrong was class and his link with Jack enabled a lot more to take place this week. Jack's ten points were not to be sniffed at either! Evans was more disciplined and better for it, Straith and Jenkins off the bench know the game and kept things seamless.  Good to see Seale getting some time as well.  In all, job well done.
