The final news tidbit from a very busy summer comes to us from a parent of one of our U14 players. In August, BC took two U14 teams to Alberta - the Blues and the Golds to play matches against Ontario, Saskatchewan and Alberta. After two close losses to Ontario in round-robin play, both teams came back to defeat them to finish #1 and 2 in the Tourney. CW congratulates; Adam Walton, Jack Nyren, Dante Morandin, James Carson and Simon Gray. Also selected was Tyler McDiarmid who was unfortunately, injured and could not make the trek. This win sets the table for close competition between B.C. and Ontario in the future and perhaps a path to even greater honours. Great job, guys.

The picture has Adam and James (top row right), Dante bottom left, with Simon the ball carrier and Jack on his left. Great commraderie from the Island guys, a team that also finished Runner Up at the B.C. Summer Games.

Evan Cambridge, Riley MacPherson, Alex Kanty, Jeff Nishima and Fergus Hall recently represented BC at the National Under 16 Championships. B.C. fielded two teams and won the silver and bronze losing two close games by a total of four points to a very good Ontario squad. Well done, guys. At the same tournament, Mike Fuailefau played for B.C. Under 18's. Ontario won the gold with B.C. being the silver medallists. Well done, Mike. CW wishes to thank the parents of these lads who foot the bills for their boys to play Rep rugby. CW monitors all potential rep players to ensure that any financial burdens can be given some assistance.

Three years ago, CW juniors travelled to the UK and one of their matches was against the Pontypool School, losing a very close encounter. This summer revenge was the order of the day, when after showing their guests a great Canadian time, the local lads inflicted a 34 - 25 defeat on the visitors. Man-of-the-Match for CW was Steve Grdic, capably supported by Steve Thompson, Sean Kinsella, Tyson Munro, Mike Dalsin, Evan Seale, and Aden Jack. This group led a dedicated team effort which resulted in a six try output for the W. Well done guys and thanks to CW parents for being generous hosts and billeting the boys.

CW ANNOUNCES COACHING TEAM FOR 2010/11 SEASON

CW ANNOUNCES COACHING TEAM FOR 2010/11 SEASON

Posted 2010-Jun-29 10:34

Castaway Wanderers Rugby Football Club is extremely happy to announce the club's coaching team for the coming season. The coaching team is a highly accredited, well respected, dynamic group of men who bring past National Representative honors as players, coaches and officials to the table, to benefit those players who will come under their direction and tutelege. The model befits the need to cover expansive areas of the modern game, a task many are recognizing to be almost impossible for one person to handle. With the implementation of this group of coaches, CW is seeeking to return to the pinnacle of BCRU competition.

The coaching team will consist of Spencer Robinson (Player with Rugby Canada VII's and Canada 'A'; Coach of Canada Mens and Womens VII's teams); Chris May (Captain of Pacific Pride Development Team and Co-Coach of Vancouver Reps; Physiotherapist with Rugby Canada Mens VII's); Lee Lindwall ( Rugby League player - Australia; YDO/Technical Director Saskatchewan R.U., Asst Coach Prairie Fire, Coach CWRFC 2007-10) and Ian Hydelay ( Rugby Canada XV's [3 caps and RWC, 1987]; Canada Referee Panel 1991-2003; 17 Test matches RWC 1999 and RWC VII's - 1997 and 2001; Co-Coach of Canada West [NA4], Rugby Canada U20's - 2008/09). Roger Robinson and Noah Molia will continue to work in their capacity with First Division players as well. Additional biographical information can be read under Players (main menu bar).

To add to this exciting announcement we have the return of last year's Captain, Ken Goodland and experienced players such as Ander Monro and Nanyak Dala (currently contracted to Rugby Canada), Paul and Matt Buckley and Seamus Gay already confirmed. We invite any players who are interested in joining our club to contact Kevin Poole at; Recruiting
